7.14. Coronary Veins on the Posterior Aspect of the Heart
Important Coronary Veins to Note (Posterior Aspect)
Great cardiac vein (continuation)
Middle cardiac vein
Small cardiac vein (continuation)
Left marginal vein
The venous arrangement is variable and may look confusing, but it is quite simple to remember: The great, middle and small cardiac veins all drain into the coronary sinus, which itself drains into the right atrium. Again, this is logical, because the right atrium is also receiving deoxygenated venous blood from the IVC and SVC. The anterior cardiac vein is also draining directly into the right atrium.<
Note also that the left marginal vein drains into the great cardiac vein.
