8.3. Left Atrium

Overview
The left atrium is fairly unremarkable. It has a fainter fossa ovalis and is closely associated with the left auricle (function unknown although research ongoing). The wall of the left atrium (apart from the left auricle) is smooth. Note also that the four pulmonary veins drain into the left atrium.
