• Three lobes: superior lobe, middle lobe and inferior lobe.
• Two fissures: horizontal fissure (higher) and oblique fissure (lower). Note how the oblique and horizontal fissures meet at the mid-axillary line.

Note that the right lung is shorter but fatter than the left lung and, as such, is considered larger than the left lung. The heart projects into the space that would otherwise be occupied by the left lung, making the left lung slightly narrower than the right lung. Furthermore, the diaphragm is elevated on the right side due to the presence of the liver, so the right lung is shorter in height.
